Passport: no. You must never keep a guest’s passport or any original identity document, driving licence or IDP as security. This can lead to immediate suspension. You may look at documents and note the details the rental agreement needs. Take copies only with the guest’s consent, store them securely and delete them after the rental.
Deposit: yes, if you state it in the listing.
- State the amount, the form (for example cash in IDR) and when it is returned.
- Common practice: motorbikes roughly IDR 300,000 to 2,000,000; cars around IDR 1,000,000 to 1,500,000. Some owners ask for no deposit and use insurance with an excess. Choose what suits your business.
- Do not change the amount or conditions at pickup. If you do, the guest may decline without consequence.
- Return the deposit in full at the return inspection unless you can show new damage with photos compared to the handover photos. Deduct only actual, reasonable costs and give an itemised note.
- Report damage found later within 48 hours of return, with evidence.
- Sewa Rent does not hold deposits and cannot pay damage claims. We can mediate if you disagree.
